چکیده

An important aim of research on the blind image quality assessment (IQA) problem is to devise perceptual models that can predict the quality of distorted images with as little prior knowledge of the images or their distortions as possible. Current state-of-the-art ‘general purpose’ no reference (NR) IQA algorithms require knowledge about anticipated distortions in the form of training examples and corresponding human opinion scores. However we have recently derived a blind IQA model that only makes use of measurable deviations from statistical regularities observed in natural images, without training on human-rated distorted images, and, indeed without any exposure to distorted images. Thus, it is ‘completely blind.’ The new IQA model, which we call the Natural Image Quality Evaluator (NIQE) is based on the construction of a ‘quality aware’ collection of statistical features based on a simple and successful space domain natural scene statistic (NSS) model. These features are derived from a corpus of natural, undistorted images. Experimental results show that the new index delivers performance comparable to top performing NR IQA models that require training on large databases of human opinions of distorted images. A software release is available at:http://live.ece.utexas.edu/research/quality/niqe release.zip.

Blind Quality Assessment of Jpeg2000 Compressed Images Using Natural Scene Statistics

Measurement of image quality is crucial for many imageprocessing algorithms, such as acquisition, compression, restoration, enhancement and reproduction. Traditionally, researchers in image quality assessment have focused on equating image quality with similarity to a ‘reference’ or ‘perfect’ image. The field of blind, or no-reference, quality assessment, in which image quality is predicted wit...

Blind image quality assessment without training on human opinion scores

We propose a family of image quality assessment (IQA) models based on natural scene statistics (NSS), that can predict the subjective quality of a distorted image without reference to a corresponding distortionless image, and without any training results on human opinion scores of distorted images. These ‘completely blind’ models compete well with standard non-blind image quality indices in ter...

PSO-Optimized Blind Image Deconvolution for Improved Detectability in Poor Visual Conditions

Abstract: Image restoration is a critical step in many vision applications. Due to the poor quality of Passive Millimeter Wave (PMMW) images, especially in marine and underwater environment, developing strong algorithms for the restoration of these images is of primary importance. In addition, little information about image degradation process, which is referred to as Point Spread Function (PSF...

Blind image restoration for ultrasonic C-scan using constrained 2D-HOS

A new approach is presented in this paper to use Higher Order Statistics (HOS) to deconvolve the effects of blurring in ultrasonic C-Scans. The quantization effects of the mechanical scan-grid and due to the conversion of 1-D A-scan into one pixel on the image cause blurring. The proposed approach is completely blind to the source or the type of distortion and the formulation is purely two-dime...

Methods of the Definition Analysis of Fine Details of Images

Definition is one of the most important parameters of the color image quality and is determined by the resolution of channel brightness and chromaticity. System resolution is traditionally determined by a number of the television lines, calculated on the maximal spatial frequency value at which threshold contrast of the reproduced image is provided. Traditional methods of definition analysis ar...
